Religious Education

GCSE

The aim of Religious Studies is that it should encourage learners to be inspired and moved byfollowing a broad, satisfying and worthwhile course of study that challenges students and equips them to live constructive lives in the modern world.During the two years students will study two religions.

CHRISTIANITY - Pupils will study different aspects of the Christian faith, and what it means to grow up in the faith. They will have an opportunity to study Christian beliefs and how those beliefs affect the believer’s everyday life.

JUDAISM - Pupils will study different aspects of the Jewish faith and what it means to grow up in the faith. They will have an opportunity to study Jewish beliefs and how those beliefs affect the believer’s every day life.

In both religions the units are divided in the following topics:

Beliefs, teaching and sources

Expressing meaning

Practices and ways of life

Identity, diversity and belonging

Values and commitments

Meaning, purpose and truth

EXAMINATIONS - At the end of year 10 pupils will sit the Christianity examination (50%) and the Judaism examination at the end of year 11 (50%)
